Chris J. Trebatoski | Partner
Chris Trebatoski is a partner in our Milwaukee office. His practice has focused on trial and appellate practice. He has been lead counsel in more than fifty trials and has twenty published appellate decisions, including arguments before the Wisconsin Supreme Court and numerous appeals in the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Sixth and Seventh Circuits.
Chris has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of matters including banking industry claims, computer software design and outsourcing disputes, a host of claims arising out of failed mergers and acquisitions, professional negligence and real estate matters.
Representative Matters and Experience
- Represented a county pension system in obtaining a $45 million settlement from their actuaries in an actuarial malpractice case.
- Obtained a no-liability jury verdict for a computer outsourcing company defending a $10 million claim challenging its ability decision not to close a merger transaction.
- Obtained a no-liability jury verdict for a check processing company that had allegedly double debited its customer.
- Represented a quadriplegic in obtaining a $4.5 million settlement from a bankrupt Italian paper manufacturer for injuries sustained while unloading a sea container.
- Successfully overturned Wisconsin’s 105-year-old concealed weapons law on a constitutional basis through argument on behalf of a client before the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The case was chosen as the most significant decision of the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2003.
- Successfully obtained long-arm jurisdiction over an Italian cooperative through argument on behalf of a client before the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The case was chosen as the most significant decision of the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2001.
- Was the first counsel to be successful in obtaining a limitation of the circumstances under which an ERISA welfare benefit could be deemed vested in the Sixth Circuit.
- Speaker at continuing educational programs and conferences on topics including evidence.
